on

The ongoing conflict between the two countries namely Russia and Ukraine have stood out as one of the most significant geopolitical issues in the past decade. The Conflict commenced in 2014, after Ukraine’s pro-Russian president, Viktor Yanukovych, was ousted from power. This led to Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the subsequent conflict in eastern Ukraine, where separatists declared independence from the Ukrainian government.

Since then, the conflict has claimed over 13,000 lives and displaced more than 1.6 million people.  Furthermore, it has brought significant political and economic consequences for both countries and the wider region.

The conflict has been characterised by a range of tactics, including the use of heavy weapons, the deployment of troops, and the utilisation of propaganda. It has also resulted in numerous ceasefire agreements, none of which have been completely enforced.

The situation in Ukraine has grown intricate due to the involvement of other nations, including the United States, the European Union, and Russia. These countries have adopted divergent stances regarding the conflict, with Russia supporting separatist forces, while the United States and the European Union have extended aid and assistance to the Ukrainian government.

The Russian-Ukraine war has also resulted in significant economic consequences. The annexation of Crimea has triggered sanctions against Russia from the United States and the European Union, exerting an impact on Russia’s economy. Ukraine’s economy has also been impacted by the conflict, with the country grappling with substantial economic difficulties stemming from the war.

The conflict continues to this day, with sporadic fights occurring in eastern Ukraine. Despite efforts to initiate peace negotiations, the conflict remains unresolved. The path for resolving the conflict and the potential implication for regional stability remains uncertain to this date.

It has brought significant political, economic, and security ramifications for both countries and the broader region. Despite attempts at peace negotiations, the tussle persists without resolution leaving the future uncertain.  and the situation in Ukraine is fraught with tension.
