‘Alongside my daughter in the online classes, I learnt all that I had missed out during my school days’

Mrs. Preety Malhan is a homemaker while her husband, Mr. Sandeep Malhan, is a businessman in the field of water purification. They are proud parents of Raavi,  a class 1 student at Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri.  In a brief interview, Mrs. Malhan recounts how as a parent and also as an alumni of the school, she is reliving her school days as well as enjoying the learning spree. Edited excerpts:

Why did you choose Apeejay Charkhi Dadri over other schools for your daughter’s admission?

My brother Mr. Deepak Kumar and I are both alumni of Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri. We have studied in Apeejay since the very beginning. My father wanted to get us enrolled in the best school in Charkhi Dadri. He is an officer in the Indian Army. He did not have a huge salary at that time but still got us, siblings, enrolled here since this is the best school. I wished that when I get blessed with a child, the child should also get the best education. So, we enrolled Raavi here. We now have a way better financial condition. Also, Raavi is a single child so we simply have to give her the best education. She will certainly study here till class 12. I have seen that when it comes to all round development of a student, this school is the best in our area.

Please tell us about Raavi and take us through her progress at school?

Raavi loves English and drawing. She speaks a bit less but understands everything very quickly. She participates in all the events in the morning assembly at school. She is enjoying school a lot. I have seen a lot of improvement in her. She has become very intelligent. 

Are the teachers engaging well with the students?

Raavi likes Renu ma’am, her English teacher a lot. When she was in KG, she adored Anita ma’am. The way the teacher speaks with the students is simply superb.  I feel sometimes I am also not able to talk to my daughter in such a reassuring way. The teachers teach the students in a playful manner. Raavi at home becomes both the teacher and the student while telling me about her day. The teachers are doing a great job, I must say.

What is the best thing about the school?

The staff at the school is extremely cooperative. We are given all the information even when a very small event is being organised at the school. Everything happens in a well-managed manner. The teaching method is about bringing out the creativity in the students and teaching them through activity-based learning methods. They don’t practise rot learning here. I am very happy with the school.

How has the experience of the online classes been for Raavi?

When I had enrolled Raavi at the school, the online classes were taking place at that point in time. Babita ma’am used to teach her then. During the online classes, she used to teach in a very engaging way, sharing interesting anecdotes  with the kids. It was such a lovely way of teaching young learners. 

I felt that I had also learned a lot alongside Raavi in the online classes. I learnt all that I couldn’t learn during my time at the school. Nursery students are taught everything, be it environmental science or about wildlife and Raavi remembers everything. The students were taught in such a good manner that they didn’t forget it. That speaks volumes. 

Now that the schools have reopened, is Raavi happy to be back at school?

Raavi is enjoying going to the school. She was very excited to re-join her school after the summer break. She had even called her teacher and told her that she would certainly be coming to the school.
