Adolescence is a time of immense change and growth, and it comes with its unique set of challenges. Recognising this, Apeejay School, Nerul, recently conducted its annual Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) for class 9 students. The programme, designed to nurture students’ physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being, aimed to empower them with essential life skills.

The event commenced with an interactive session that engaged students in understanding the essence of adolescence and its significance. Adolescence is a transformative phase marked by rapid changes and unique challenges, and this session provided clarity on these crucial aspects.

Mr. P Subhash, Principal of Apeejay School, Nerul, emphasised the importance of AEP. He highlighted how this program provides age-appropriate and accurate information to teenagers, equipping them with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate adolescence effectively.

The school’s dedicated counselor, Ms. Manisha Bagul, along with class 9 teachers, took the initiative to promote a healthy understanding of adolescence. Their efforts aimed to counter misinformation and misconceptions while fostering a positive body image among students.

During the event, students were shown educational videos about brain development during adolescence. They were also guided on the development of emotional intelligence, coping mechanisms, and effective communication skills. These essential skills empower students to manage stress, conflicts, and peer pressures, ultimately enhancing their resilience and mental well-being.

Ms. Bagul addressed the common insecurities faced by teenagers, including heightened self-doubt, lack of confidence, and anxieties related to acceptance, appearance, and social status, which often stem from developmental changes during this phase.

The program emphasised the importance of critical life skills such as decision-making, goal-setting, and time management. Equipping teenagers with these skills as they transition into adulthood enables them to make informed choices and pursue their aspirations, contributing to a supportive environment where all students can thrive.

One of the crucial aspects covered during the event was emotional management, with a focus on dealing with anger. The ‘Wheel of Emotion’ was introduced to help adolescents understand the wide range of emotions they experience during this phase.

This informative session provided students with valuable tools to navigate the challenges of adolescence and build a strong foundation for their future. It instilled in them the confidence to embrace their potential and contribute positively to society.
