As part of the Chetna Program, our class had the privilege of visiting the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, an experience that proved to be both educational and deeply inspiring. Although we could not meet the Deputy Commissioner personally, we were fortunate to interact with a senior official who warmly welcomed us and provided valuable insights into the functioning of the district administration.
During the visit, we were given a guided tour of various sections within the complex, including the Seva Kendra, Saanjh Kendra, and other administrative departments. We learned how these centres play a vital role in delivering citizen services efficiently and transparently. The Seva Kendra assists citizens with documents, certificates, and applications, while the Saanjh Kendra focuses on community policing, grievance redressal, and strengthening the bond between citizens and the police. Observing the smooth coordination among departments and the use of technology in public service left a lasting impression on me.

In our interactive session, we asked questions related to pension schemes, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), career guidance, and the roadmap to the UPSC Civil Services Examination. The official’s patient and encouraging responses provided clarity about the purpose and responsibilities of an IAS officer.
As someone who aspires to join the Indian Administrative Services, this visit has been a turning point in my journey. It not only deepened my understanding of governance but also reinforced my motivation to work diligently toward my goal. The dedication and professionalism I witnessed within the office strengthened my belief that the civil services are not just a profession but a noble mission to serve society with empathy, efficiency, and integrity.
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” – Mahatma Gandhi
This quote perfectly captures what I felt during the visit — that true leadership lies in serving people selflessly and ensuring their welfare.
In conclusion, this visit was not just an academic experience but a life-changing one. It opened my eyes to the inner workings of public administration and reaffirmed my desire to serve my country through the civil services. I came back with renewed determination and a heart full of inspiration.
“Dreams are not what you see in sleep; dreams are those that do not let you sleep.” – Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
With this dream in my heart and the lessons from this visit in my mind, I am more determined than ever to chase my goal and contribute meaningfully to India’s progress.
