Apeejay School of Management (ASM) organised a Global Immersion Programme for its PGDM Batch 2025–27 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in academic collaboration with UCSI University. The three-day programme integrated academic engagement, industrial learning and cultural exploration, providing students with international exposure and opportunities to connect classroom concepts with real-world business practices.

The programme enabled students to understand Malaysia’s evolving business environment and explore how technology, entrepreneurship, operational excellence and cultural sensitivity contribute to global business success. Accompanying faculty members Dr. Ishita Adhkari, Dr. Preeti Suryawanshi, Dr. Chhaya Wadhwa, Dr. Pragya Arya and Mr. Mohit Khatri, Social Media Coordinator, guided the participants throughout the immersion.

Academic Insights into Digital Transformation

The second day featured a visit to UCSI University, where students experienced its international academic environment and participated in a three-hour seminar on Digital Transformation and Marketing in Global Markets, delivered by a university faculty expert.

The session explored digitisation, digitalisation and digital transformation, data analytics, predictive decision-making, data visualisation, business storytelling, disruptive innovation, first-mover advantage, network effects, platform-based business models, entrepreneurship and emerging applications of artificial intelligence. Discussions also highlighted innovative agricultural practices such as hydroponics, demonstrating how technology-driven business models can address resource constraints and changing market needs.

Students were encouraged to combine analytical thinking, creativity and effective marketing communication to identify opportunities and respond to contemporary business challenges. Participation certificates were presented at the conclusion of the seminar, followed by a campus tour that familiarised students with the university’s facilities and learning environment.

Learning from a Heritage Enterprise

An industrial visit to the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre offered valuable insights into the evolution of a traditional enterprise into an internationally recognised brand. Founded in 1885 by Yong Koon, the pewter manufacturer demonstrated how craftsmanship and heritage can coexist with innovation and changing consumer preferences.

Students observed manufacturing processes, including casting, sanding, polishing, assembly and finishing. They also learnt how the company expanded beyond traditional ceremonial products to contemporary offerings, illustrating the importance of product differentiation, quality control, brand identity and premium positioning. The visit highlighted how businesses sustain competitiveness through operational discipline, customer-focused innovation and the transfer of knowledge across generations.

Exploring Malaysia’s Cultural and Commercial Landscape

The cultural itinerary began with Thean Hou Temple, dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu, followed by Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant Chinatown. Students observed vendor-customer interactions, bargaining, pricing strategies and consumer behaviour in the local marketplace.

The group also viewed the Maybank building and visited Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), home to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, symbols of Malaysia’s modernisation and economic aspirations.

On the second day, students explored Batu Caves, a prominent limestone cave complex and Hindu religious site dedicated to Lord Murugan. The final day included a visit to Istana Negara, the official residence of Malaysia’s federal king, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, where students gained insights into the country’s constitutional monarchy.

At Central Market Kuala Lumpur, participants explored handicrafts, souvenirs, clothing and locally produced merchandise. Interactions with vendors demonstrated how cultural heritage, tourism and entrepreneurship intersect, while offering practical observations on product presentation, customer engagement and retail operations.

Strengthening Global Management Competencies

The immersion programme strengthened students’ global business awareness, digital and analytical competence, entrepreneurial thinking, marketing knowledge and understanding of operational excellence. It also encouraged teamwork, adaptability, communication and cross-cultural sensitivity through shared international experiences.

By connecting management theory with industry practices, academic discussions and diverse cultural settings, the programme reinforced Apeejay School of Management’s commitment to experiential learning, global orientation and holistic student development.

ASM acknowledges the contribution of UCSI University, the accompanying faculty members and everyone involved in organising the programme. The experience is expected to provide lasting academic and professional value, preparing students to approach future managerial responsibilities with a broader global outlook, an innovative mindset and greater cultural awareness.
