A Capacity Building Programme on Promoting Mental Health and Wellness among students’was organised at Apeejay School, Saket, to sensitise educators towards the emotional and psychological well-being of students. The programme was conducted by Mr Jithin S. George and Ms Mona Chopra, CBSE Resource Persons, who were warmly welcomed by the school Principal, Dr Sujeet Eric Masih, and Vice-principal, Ms Ashu Khattar.
The session focused on the growing importance of prioritising mental health and wellness in educational spaces. The resource persons highlighted the need for greater awareness and understanding of students’ emotional experiences, while emphasising the role of educators in fostering resilience and creating safe, inclusive and empathetic environments within schools.
Through an engaging and interactive approach, the resource persons encouraged teachers to reflect on the emotional challenges that students may encounter in their academic and personal lives. The session went beyond theoretical discussions and incorporated a range of hands-on activities, experiential exercises and role plays, enabling educators to explore real-life situations from a student’s perspective.
The activities provided teachers with valuable insights into identifying signs of emotional distress and understanding the importance of responding to students with patience, sensitivity and empathy. The role-play exercises, in particular, helped educators examine different situations that may arise in a classroom and consider appropriate ways of communicating with and supporting students.
The programme also underlined the importance of building strong teacher-student relationships and ensuring that children feel heard, understood and supported. Educators were equipped with practical strategies to respond to students’ emotional needs and contribute towards a positive and supportive school culture.
The insightful session provided a meaningful platform for teachers to deepen their understanding of student mental health and reflect on their own role in promoting emotional well-being. The programme reinforced the school’s commitment to creating an environment where students can learn, grow and thrive while receiving the emotional support they need.
