Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for every child, Apeejay School, Saket organised an insightful workshop on  POCSO Act and the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act  for its teaching and non-teaching staff on 10 July 2026. The workshop aimed to enhance awareness of child protection laws while reinforcing the crucial role that educators and school staff play in safeguarding every student’s well-being and rights.

The session was conducted by Ms. Shivani Rai, Senior Advocacy Ambassador at Project CACA, who holds a gold medal in Master of Social Work from the University of Lucknow. With extensive expertise in human resources, legal frameworks, and social legislation, Ms. Rai brought a wealth of knowledge and practical insights to the interactive session.

Addressing the participants, Ms. Rai emphasised that schools are not merely centres of academic learning but also spaces where children must feel protected, respected, and empowered. She highlighted the importance of understanding child protection laws and the responsibilities entrusted to educators in identifying, preventing, and responding to situations that may threaten a child’s safety.

The workshop provided a comprehensive overview of the provisions of the POCSO Act and the Juvenile Justice Act, enabling participants to develop a deeper understanding of the legal framework designed to protect children. Ms. Rai explained the rights of children, the significance of creating child-friendly environments, and the role of educational institutions in ensuring these rights are upheld at all times.

One key aspect of the session focused on mandatory reporting obligations under the POCSO Act. Participants were sensitised to the legal responsibilities of school personnel in reporting suspected cases of abuse and the importance of acting promptly and responsibly to protect children from harm. Ms. Rai also discussed institutional accountability, stressing that every member of the school community shares the responsibility of fostering a secure and supportive environment.

The workshop further highlighted various preventive measures schools can adopt to minimise risks and strengthen child safety. Through practical examples and interactive discussions, participants gained valuable insights into recognising warning signs, responding appropriately to concerns, and promoting awareness among students in an age-appropriate manner.

The engaging session encouraged active participation from both teaching and non-teaching staff, who appreciated the opportunity to clarify their doubts and deepen their understanding of child protection laws. The workshop served as an important platform for meaningful discussions on the ethical, legal, and social responsibilities of educators in today’s educational landscape.

The programme concluded on an encouraging note, reaffirming Apeejay School, Saket’s dedication to fostering a culture of vigilance, empathy, and responsibility. By equipping its staff with essential knowledge of the POCSO and JJ Acts, the school continues to strengthen its commitment to providing every child with a safe, secure, and supportive environment where learning and personal growth can flourish.
