Ralph Waldo Emerson had once said: Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel. The corridors of Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, resonated with sharp intellect and powerful expression as the school hosted its much-anticipated Inter-house Hindi Debate Competition for the middle school classes. The event witnessed an enthusiastic face-off among students of Classes VI to VIII, with two participants from each of the four houses, Gautam, Kabir, Nanak, and Vivekananda, stepping up to the challenge.

The competition was designed to sharpen students’ oratory, analytical, and critical thinking skills, while giving them a platform to express their views on pressing social and contemporary issues. The topics chosen encouraged participants to delve deeper into themes of social awareness, responsibility of youth, and problem-solving — pushing them to think beyond textbooks and articulate their opinions with conviction.

In a display of remarkable clarity and confidence, Kabir House stole the show. Manasvi of Class VIII earned the first position for her eloquent and well-structured speech, while Bhavika of Class VII, also from Kabir House, bagged the second position. Niyati of Class VI impressed the audience and judges alike with her calm composure and logical reasoning, securing the third position.

The competition was judged by Mr Sanjeev Mishra, an experienced educator and public speaking mentor. He lauded the participants for their clarity of thought, body language, and persuasive arguments, while sharing insightful tips on structuring debates, engaging an audience, and building confidence on stage.

Principal of the school, Dr Vineet Vasishtha, who felicitated the winners with certificates, praised the students for their preparation and performance. In his address, he highlighted how such competitions not only strengthen communication and leadership skills but also foster analytical thinking, teamwork, and the ability to view issues from multiple perspectives — vital qualities for the leaders of tomorrow.

“The Inter-house Hindi Debate Competition was a brilliant showcase of our students’ intellectual depth and oratory prowess. I am immensely proud of the confidence and clarity with which our middle school students presented their views. Events like these are essential to foster critical thinking and effective communication. Congratulations to all participants, especially the winners, and sincere thanks to our esteemed judge Mr Mishra. I encourage all students to continue embracing such opportunities to grow and excel,” Dr Vasishtha said.

The event concluded on a high note, with the audience inspired by the passion and preparation of the debaters. The vibrant applause after every speech reflected the hard work, learning, and confidence that the competition nurtured. This was not just a contest of words but a journey of learning and self-discovery for every participant.
