Art isn’t just about technique—it’s about finding peace, expressing inner worlds, and honouring tradition. Prathamesh Shandilya, a Class 10 student from Apeejay School, Kharghar, has found all of this and more through his deepening interest in drawing and traditional Indian art. Named this week’s Apeejay Aspiring Artist, Prathamesh shares his journey, inspiration, and current work with quiet confidence and grace.
Since when have you been drawing?
I started drawing back in kindergarten. I had joined art classes at that time, and that’s where it all began. Those early lessons gave me the confidence and love for art.
What inspired you to take art seriously?
One day, I saw someone painting beautiful scenery on a canvas. It left a deep impact on me, and I decided that I, too, wanted to create such beauty with my hands.

Which themes do you enjoy the most as an artist?
Drawing landscapes and sceneries is my favourite. It really soothes my mind and gives me a peaceful state of being.
How does your school support you in your artistic journey?
Our teachers are very encouraging. They often give us drawing assignments and motivate us to keep improving.
Which art forms do you love the most?
I really enjoy traditional art, especially Madhubani. It has a timeless charm and cultural depth that I find fascinating.
What are you working on currently?
Right now, I’m working on a Madhubani painting for myself. It’s a personal project and I’m enjoying every bit of it.
Do you showcase your art online or follow any artists?
I’ve uploaded some of my artworks to the Apeejay Newsroom, but I haven’t shared them on social media yet. And as of now, I don’t follow any specific artists.
What does art mean to you?
For some, art is passion. For others, it’s life. For me, it’s a silent voice that expresses what words often can’t. It’s a beautiful way to share feelings, ideas, and stories.
Lastly, hobbies beyond art?
Well, I find most joy in reading, playing and watching cricket in my time away from art.
