Apeejay School, Kharghar, observes International Yoga Day with a transformative Sahaj Yoga session for students and teachers

The nature of yoga is to shine the light of awareness into the darkest corners of the body and mind. A serene atmosphere of wellness, mindfulness, and self-discovery enveloped Apeejay School, Kharghar, as it celebrated International Yoga Day through a meaningful Sahaj Yoga session. Organised in collaboration with the Sahaj Yoga Meditation Centre, the day witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of pre-primary to class XII, along with the school Principal, Dr Sonali Balwatkar, and other coordinators and members of the teaching faculty.

The session aimed to promote holistic well-being and encourage participants to cultivate inner peace through meditation and self-awareness. Resource persons from the centre introduced students and educators to the principles of Sahaj Yoga, explaining how yoga and meditation work together to foster balance, harmony, and emotional well-being.

Drawing inspiration from the teachings of Mataji Nirmala Devi, the founders of Sahaj Yoga, the experts guided participants through a simple yet impactful meditation practice. They highlighted the importance of connecting with one’s inner self and achieving a state of thoughtless awareness, where the mind becomes calm and focused.

A key aspect of the session was the explanation of kundalini awakening and the significance of the Sahasrara, or crown chakra. Participants learned how these concepts contribute to personal growth, self-realisation, and spiritual development. Through guided meditation, students and teachers experienced moments of stillness and introspection, helping them develop a deeper sense of peace and emotional balance.

The resource persons also encouraged participants to express gratitude towards Mother Earth and embrace positive thoughts and mindful living. The activities enabled students to understand the relevance of yoga beyond physical exercise, recognising it as a powerful tool for mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.

A special meditation session was conducted for the teaching fraternity, inspiring educators to incorporate mindfulness practices into their daily lives and classrooms. The program reinforced the importance of self-care and holistic development in creating a healthy and nurturing learning environment.

The celebration served as a reminder of yoga’s enduring relevance in modern life and reflected the school’s commitment to nurturing the overall well-being of its community.
