A special assembly commemorating Gandhi Jayanti was organised by the students of classes V-A and V-B at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park. The event paid a heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, highlighting his enduring values and the relevance of his principles in today’s world.

The programme commenced with a serene prayer, followed by the word and thought of the day, both reflecting Gandhian philosophy. These early reflections on truth, non-violence, and compassion set the tone for the assembly, inspiring the students and audience alike.

As the presentation unfolded, key principles of Gandhiji’s life were shared with the audience. Students emphasised how values like truth, non-violence, and compassion can make a positive impact on both individuals and the world. The inspiring message resonated with everyone, encouraging them to adopt these timeless values in their lives.

One of the highlights of the assembly was the rendition of soul-stirring bhajans like Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram and Vaishnav Jan Toh, which created a peaceful and reflective atmosphere in the auditorium. These devotional songs, deeply associated with Gandhiji, captured the essence of his spiritual side.

Following this was a dramatic enactment that brought to life some of the key episodes from Mahatma Gandhi’s life. The students showcased the struggles and pivotal moments that shaped his journey as a leader of the Indian independence movement. The presentation emphasised Gandhiji’s dedication to truth, non-violence, and his quest for justice.

A mesmerising dance performance added another dimension to the assembly, captivating the audience with its grace and artistry. The performance, a tribute to Gandhi’s love for the arts and culture, was one of the major attractions of the event.

Speaking about the idea behind conducting this special assembly, Ms Garima Gauba, PRT, Activity Coordinator at Apeejay School, Panchsheeel Park said, “The word and the thought of the day was a reflection of the Gandhian ideology. This was followed by a presentation of some of the key principles of his life like truth, non-violence and simple living. All this was incorporated in the enactment of the life of the Mahatma. It was also mentioned in the role play that the title – Father of the Nation was given by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Rabindranath Tagore had given the title of Mahatma to him. The theme of Swacch Bharat was also included at the end to depict that today the need of the hour is to make our country free from all kinds of pollution.”

The concluding scene carried a powerful message about the present-day threats to the environment, particularly pollution. In the spirit of Gandhiji’s dream of a clean and self-reliant India, the students made a call for a pollution-free Swachh Bharat. This message aligned with modern-day efforts toward environmental conservation and reflected Gandhi’s belief in simple living and harmony with nature.

The Vice-principal, Ms Vandana Bansal, addressed the students, encouraging them to learn from the life of Mahatma Gandhi. She emphasised the importance of truth, non-violence, and perseverance, urging students to imbibe these values and carry forward Gandhi’s legacy.

The assembly was a meaningful and reflective tribute to the Father of the Nation, reminding students and teachers alike of the timeless relevance of Gandhi’s ideals in shaping a better and more peaceful world.
