A four-time Olympian and a familiar name in Indian hockey, Manpreet Singh has been part of some of the country’s most memorable sporting achievements. Recognising his contribution to the sport, Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar, recently felicitated the celebrated player, who is also a parent of the school.

The occasion acknowledged his sporting achievements, particularly his role in India’s success at the Olympics and Asian Games. It also brought attention to the qualities of leadership, discipline and teamwork that have defined his journey.

A remarkable sporting journey

Mr Singh captained the Indian men’s hockey team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where India secured a historic bronze medal after a gap of 41 years. The victory marked an important moment for Indian hockey, ending a long wait for an Olympic medal.

He was also part of the Indian team that won another bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. These consecutive podium finishes reflected India’s return to prominence in international hockey, with Mr Singh playing an important role in both campaigns.

His achievements extend beyond the Olympics. Mr Singh became the first Indian hockey player to win three Asian Games gold medals, contributing to the country’s victories in 2014, 2023 and 2026. This distinction added another significant achievement to his sporting career.

Recognising excellence and dedication

Dr Rajesh Kumar Chandel, Principal of Apeejay School, Model Town, congratulated and felicitated Mr Singh for his contribution to Indian hockey. The recognition acknowledged his leadership, commitment and achievements across major international tournaments.

For the school, honouring a parent who has represented India at the highest level of international sport held special significance. His accomplishments offered students an example of what consistent effort, discipline and teamwork can achieve.

The felicitation also reinforced the importance of perseverance and dedication, qualities that remain valuable beyond the sporting field.
