Debating is a vital skill that hones our ability to argue with reason and to listen with an open mind

Debate requires each student to analyse various perspectives on a given topic. These sessions or competitions are more than just a fun activity for school students. They are a vital component of their educational journey, as they provide a platform for students to develop a range of essential skills and qualities that will benefit them throughout their lives.

To enable students to gain more knowledge than just academics, a Hindi Inter-house debate competition was held at Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri on July 29, 2024. The competition proved to be a remarkable display of intellectual prowess and eloquent oratory. It provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their debating skills, and the level of participation was a testament to their dedication and hard work.

Kabir House emerged as the champions, with standout performances from Kashish and Neha Mittal, students of class X. Their meticulously crafted arguments and confident delivery captivated the judges, earning them the coveted first position. Kashish, in particular, demonstrated exceptional debating skills and was honoured as the Best Debater in Hindi. This accolade highlighted her outstanding ability to present and defend her points with clarity and conviction.

Nanak House secured the second position with all the hard work and impressive efforts done by Ananya, a student of class X, and Sunidhi, a student of class VIII. Their performance was marked by well-researched points and compelling rebuttals, which left a significant impact on both the audience and the judges. Their ability to address counterarguments and present a balanced view was commendable and played a key role in their success.

Gautam House claimed the third position, with Isha of class VIII and Param Phogat of class IX representing their team. Their strong stage presence and thoughtful arguments demonstrated their potential as future debating champions. The clarity of their points and their ability to engage effectively with the topic contributed to their respectable third-place finish.

Dr Vineet Vasishtha, the Principal of the school presided over the event and distributed the certificates to the participants.

In his address, he praised the students for their outstanding performances and emphasised the importance of such competitions in developing critical thinking and effective communication skills. Dr Vasishtha encouraged all participants to continue refining their debating abilities, noting that these skills are invaluable for their academic and personal growth.
