Guru is the one who dispels the darkness of ignorance and leads you to the light of knowledge
Guru Purnima is a significant and revered festival in India. It is a day which is dedicated to honouring teachers and mentors. This tradition, deeply rooted in Indian culture, pays homage to the contributions of gurus, who are considered the guiding lights in the journey of learning and personal growth. For school students, celebrating Guru Purnima holds immense importance, offering numerous educational, cultural, and emotional benefits.
Celebrating Guru Purnima instils a sense of respect and gratitude in students towards their teachers. In the fast-paced, achievement-oriented world of today, students often overlook the vital role teachers play in shaping their futures. On July 23, 2024, the students of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park celebrated the day with a special assembly. The students of Ashoka House (Primary Wing) presented a captivating assembly on the theme Gurus-Ladders of Society in the school auditorium.
This heartfelt tribute honoured the invaluable role of gurus in shaping our hearts and minds. The programme commenced with a thought-provoking quote, setting a reflective tone. Furthermore, the students then paid homage to their teachers with a beautiful Guru Vandana.
The assembly highlighted ancient gurus like Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Swami Vivekananda, and Guru Sandeepani, emphasising their enduring contributions to knowledge and wisdom. A skit and a poetic rendition underscored the importance of mentors in our lives, engaging the audience with their powerful messages. An interactive quiz tested and expanded the students’ knowledge about these revered figures.
Celebrating Guru Purnima in schools is not just a tradition. It is a valuable practice that enriches students’ educational experiences. By cultivating respect and gratitude, strengthening the teacher-student bond, understanding cultural heritage, promoting lifelong learning, and enhancing emotional and social skills, Guru Purnima plays a pivotal role in the holistic development of students.
The event concluded with inspiring words from Ms Surabhi Joshi, the Principal of the school followed by the felicitation of class III NOF Olympiad winners. Overall, it was an enriching experience celebrating the significance of teachers in our lives.
