WhatsApp users in India are in for a treat as Meta’s cutting-edge AI assistant, Meta AI, makes its debut on the messaging platform. Initially launched to a select group in the US, Meta AI garnered attention for its prowess in delivering human-like responses to user queries.

This development marks Meta’s foray into the generative AI domain, following the footsteps of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which captivated users worldwide with its multifaceted abilities upon its release in November 2022.

Meta AI’s introduction during the Meta Connect 2023 event signaled Meta’s ambitions to integrate AI seamlessly into its ecosystem, with WhatsApp being the chosen conduit. After an initial rollout in the US, Indian users are now witnessing the arrival of Meta AI on their WhatsApp interfaces, expanding its global reach.

Screenshots shared on social media platforms reveal Meta AI’s interface, inviting users to “Ask Meta AI anything” and offering suggestions ranging from inventing new cuisines to crafting poetry or futuristic sitcom plots. Accessing the AI assistant is as simple as tapping on a brightly-lit ring icon located conveniently on the top right corner of the WhatsApp interface.

While the availability of Meta AI on WhatsApp is currently limited to a select number of users in India, Meta has hinted at a broader rollout shortly. The company’s emphasis on combining cutting-edge language models with advanced technologies like Llama 2 underscores its commitment to delivering an intuitive and powerful AI experience.

Furthermore, Meta’s collaboration with Microsoft’s Bing Chat promises to enhance Meta AI’s capabilities by providing real-time web results, enriching user interactions with dynamic and relevant information. Additionally, reports suggest that Meta AI will empower users to generate lifelike images from scratch with a simple command, offering a seamless fusion of text and visual content creation akin to established text-to-image generators.
