Recently, Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad, organised an experiential learning activity for Class II students to help them understand the human body. The activity focused on building early awareness about how the body functions and why it is important to take care of it. It also introduced students to basic concepts related to the heart and lungs in a simple and engaging way.
The session encouraged students to observe and learn through direct experience. They listened to the sound of their heartbeat and recognised the steady rhythm often described as lub-dub. This helped them connect with how the heart works inside the body. The activity created a moment of curiosity as students tried to understand what keeps the body active and functioning.
Hands-on learning in the classroom
As part of the activity, students created models of lungs using paper bags and straws. This hands-on task helped them visualise how breathing takes place. It also allowed them to see how air moves in and out, making the concept easier to understand.
The activity moved beyond models to physical engagement. Students practised simple breathing exercises and yoga poses. These exercises helped them observe how their breathing changes with movement. It also introduced them to the idea that regular physical activity supports the body’s internal systems.

The activity helped students understand that exercise plays an important role in keeping the heart and lungs healthy. Through simple actions and observation, they were able to connect learning with everyday habits.
Such activities support early awareness and encourage students to take interest in their own well-being. By engaging with these concepts at a young age, students begin to develop a basic understanding of health and physical fitness that can guide their choices in the future.
