Apeejay School, Kharghar, celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit, commemorating the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, one of India’s most celebrated hockey players. The occasion provided students with an opportunity to appreciate the importance of physical fitness while understanding the values of discipline, perseverance, teamwork and sportsmanship associated with sport.

The celebration was specially planned for students of the Junior Classes, with a series of age-appropriate activities designed to promote movement, coordination and active participation. The programme included energetic fitness drills, Surya Namaskar and a variety of exciting races that filled the atmosphere with energy and excitement.

Students participated enthusiastically in the activities and demonstrated remarkable coordination, agility and confidence. The races provided them with an enjoyable experience of healthy competition while encouraging them to follow rules, respect their peers and display sportsmanlike behaviour. The young participants were encouraged to understand that winning is only one aspect of competition, while participation, effort and learning are equally important.

The fitness drills and Surya Namaskar further highlighted the significance of incorporating physical activity into daily routines. Students were encouraged to recognise that an active lifestyle extends beyond competitive sports and that regular exercise can contribute to stamina, flexibility, coordination and concentration.

The celebration also reinforced the school’s emphasis on sports and physical education as an integral part of a balanced curriculum. Sporting activities offer children opportunities to develop important life skills, including discipline, perseverance, cooperation, leadership and confidence. Learning to work as part of a team and respond positively to both success and challenges helps students grow into resilient and responsible individuals.

Beyond the races and exercises, the celebration served as a meaningful reminder of the broader spirit of sports. Students experienced the joy of being physically active while learning valuable lessons about teamwork, fair play and healthy competition.

The programme concluded on a cheerful note, with students carrying forward an appreciation for fitness and active participation. Their spirited involvement made the celebration memorable and reflected the true essence of National Sports Day, staying active, playing fair and embracing the spirit of sportsmanship.
