A student of Apeejay School of Management (ASM), Sanyam Malhotra cracked campus placements recently to get a job at HDFC Bank as a personal banker. An in-depth understanding of business concepts and practices coupled with exposure to industry offered by ASM was what prepared the MBA student for his professional endeavour, he says.

In an interview, he talks in detail about how the institute equips learners with the right skills to “soar high” in their careers.

What kind of exposure did ASM offer you?

ASM provided a strong foundation in business principles, practices, and theories. I was exposed to case studies, live projects, and internships, which helped me to apply theoretical concepts to real-world business situations. In addition to the academic coursework, I also got various opportunities to develop my professional skills. They often organise guest lectures, networking events, and career fairs where students can interact with industry experts and potential employers.

What help did you get from ASM’s placement cell?

The placement cell helped me with guidance and advice on various job search strategies, resume writing, and interview preparation. Training programmes, workshops, and seminars helped me to develop my professional skills and improve my employability. The placement cell also provided students with a brief background knowledge of the company that came for recruitment and cleared doubts about interview rounds.

How did you practice for the job interview? What did you do to cope with nervousness?

I researched the company thoroughly to understand its mission, culture, values, and products or services. I read the job description carefully to understand the key responsibilities and qualifications for the position. I also prepared and practiced the responses to common interview questions which made me feel more confident during the actual interview.

To cope with my nervousness, I prepared for the group discussion (GD) round and personal interview with a faculty mentor. Mentors are allotted to each and every student in the first year itself. They help students adapt to academic expectations and provide guidance on selecting courses, identifying research or internship opportunities, and exploring potential career paths.

Overall, what do you have to say about your journey at ASM?

ASM is known for its rigorous academic programmes, practical training, and commitment to preparing students for successful careers in the business world. Students at ASM can learn from experienced faculty members, engage in hands-on projects and internships, and participate in a variety of extracurricular activities to develop their skills and build their networks.

Overall, the journey of a student at ASM is likely to be challenging and demanding, but also rewarding and fulfilling. Students can expect to develop a strong foundation in business concepts and practices, as well as gain practical experience in their chosen field. They can also expect to receive support and guidance from faculty and staff members, as well as build strong relationships with their peers and alumni. ASM provides a comprehensive learning experience for its students, preparing them to achieve success in a competitive business world.
