India has a highly competitive academic environment. The number of students vying for limited seats in higher education institutes and competitive job markets is significant. Parents believe that getting admission into a reputed school gives their children a head start in this competitive race.

Hence, for a father like Kyser Shah, who works in the IT sector, choosing the perfect school for his daughter, Hawra (now in class I), was important. “I had heard good things about the Apeejay and like this school. A few friends recommended this school to me as their kids study at Apeejay. Also, the school near to where I live. So, when it was time for my daughter to start her formal education, I went with Apeejay School, Saket,” Shah said.

Excerpts from an interview.

How and why did you choose Apeejay?

As I mentioned, the school impressed me. I had heard that the teachers are good. This is my daughter’s first school and she joined in the nursery. It made sense to choose Apeejay School.

How are the teachers?

All her teachers are good. Her class teacher, Nikita Rathi ma’am, is very supportive. Teachers all through have been amazing, be it the nursery, KG and now class I. They have been my first point of contact and have been extremely supportive. I give 100 per cent credit to the teachers.

Does your daughter participate in co-curricular activities?

Yes, she does participate in the activities that the school organises from time to time. But I would want her to be part of sports and am trying to enroll her with Sports Guru. But I have not received a call from them yet. But I was also away from Delhi on work. Now that I am back, I will pursue this since she likes to play basketball.

What about the parent-teacher meetings?

They are held on a regular basis. The same was true last year as well. The teachers give good feedback about my daughter as well. I also ensure that I don’t miss any of these meetings. The best part is that in case I have a query, the teachers address it promptly.

How does a balance of academics and extracurricular activities impact the child?

I am a sports person myself and have played at the national levels. I still play cricket over the weekends. Hence, I want my daughter to pick up a sport. I don’t stress my daughter with academics at present. I know that she will pick up studies as she goes into higher classes.

How has your daughter’s learning curve been?

She is doing well in all the subjects. We taught her a few things at home. But once she started going to the school, she picked up other things as well. This is all thanks to the wonderful teachers at this school. On the whole she is doing in her class. I am happy with her progress.

Would you recommend this school?

Yes, definitely. Everything at this school is good. From teachers, to staff members, to the activities and study plan. If the school had not had these things, I wouldn’t have chosen it in the first place. Hence, I have recommended this school to other parents. Today, their kids are studying here as well.
