We have all heard of the word respect and how it is the true mark of being human. Respect for your elders or those at the workplace are common statement that we have all heard. This is because it is one of the major factors in creating a positive working, family, or social environment. Respect fosters cooperation, understanding, and positive relationships with individuals that one has to deal with in a given task. But the question is: How do you get this respect?
Be Authentic
Ever since man discovered that there is something called a fake, people have become very much aware of fakes. Being real is all about staying real from head to toe, even and especially the flaws.
Maintain Integrity
It implies that an individual should embrace the right standards of behavior for dealing with the public or other people with or without any influence.

Communicate Effectively
This is more than just enunciating every word but also it is about actually paying attention. For example, if you are explaining something, never stop midway however tight the workload may be. Show Empathy
Empathy refers to being able to personally identify with the emotions of other people. When a friend is struggling at a certain point in life, a small ‘I will be here for you’ and ‘That must be very difficult’ really can do wonders.
Set Boundaries
The importance of communication can be easily explained by the fact that people have to set healthy personal boundaries to respect each other regardless of the nature of the relationship.
Be Competent and Reliable
Loyalty and efficiency are the twin fruits that can yield respect. Since people understand that they can depend on you to do the right job at the right time, their esteem for you increases.
Lead by Example
Some of the things you do may even communicate more than what you tell those around you. Whether it is punctuality, handling stress, or accepting when one is wrong, the chosen actions create the right pace for emulation.

Be Confident, Not Arrogant
Confidence is a feeling or trust that you have in yourself and what you are capable of doing. It is a softly spoken power that you can get through all that life throws at you.
Show Respect to Others
One must understand that respect is earned in both ways, meaning that respect has to be given as well as must be reciprocated. The relationship between respect and self-respect is that you can only give it to others if you have it for yourself.
Keep Learning and Growing
Commit to continuous self-improvement. This could be by reading books, attending set courses, or embracing the feedback of others concerning the matter.
