As the temperature begins to soar, there’s nothing quite like escaping to a beautiful summer destination to beat the heat and rejuvenate your senses. From serene hill stations to exotic beaches and charming countryside towns, there are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to planning a refreshing summer vacation.

The beauty of summer is that it can mean different things for everyone. For Ms Seema Passi, an educator at Apeejay School, Saket in Delhi, the upcoming holidays would have summer camps for children. “It is an exciting time to know our students and parents beyond academics. I am truly looking forward to hosting the young minds in the school.” Besides, she will plan a 4-day trip with her family once the summer camp concludes. When asked about her favourite destination? She says, “Not sure. But as a family, we do it every year, pack our bags and explore a new destination to rejuvenate.”

Similarly, Ms Shivani Panjabi, Senior Practice Manager at BCG and mother of Viraj, who studies at Apeejay School International, South Delhi says, “It is going to be a relaxing time of the year for us. Our family is planning to discover the Southern part of India.” For Ms Panjabi, the summer vacation simply means to immerse herself in recreational activities without the gadgets. Her family is all set to make it more fun by having their family friends join in.

So, for this upcoming vacation, here are some of the top places to consider for a memorable summer getaway:

Darjeeling: Nestled amidst the lush green hills of West Bengal, Darjeeling is a perfect summer retreat with its pleasant weather and stunning views of the Himalayas. Take a ride on the famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, visit tea estates, and explore the local markets for a truly rejuvenating experience.

Goa: This popular beach destination needs no introduction. With its white sandy beaches, clear blue waters, and vibrant nightlife, Goa is the perfect place to soak up the sun and let your hair down.

Ooty: Located in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, Ooty is a charming hill station with a pleasant climate all year round. Take a stroll through the tea gardens, go boating on the lake, and enjoy the scenic views of the Nilgiri hills for a relaxing summer vacation.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands: For those seeking a tropical paradise, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a must-visit destination. With their crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, and stunning coral reefs, these islands offer a truly refreshing escape from the heat.

Coorg: Also known as the “Scotland of India”, Coorg is a picturesque hill station in Karnataka that offers a serene and tranquil atmosphere. Explore the coffee plantations, go trekking in the hills, and indulge in some delicious local cuisine for a memorable summer vacation.

Mussoorie: Situated in the northern state of Uttarakhand, Mussoorie is a popular hill station that offers stunning views of the Himalayas. Take a stroll along the Mall Road, visit the Kempty Falls and enjoy the cool mountain air for a refreshing summer outing.

How to plan it?

According to Ms Dimple Lakhera, who owns a travel agency in Delhi NCR, the top preferences of people while booking their ‘perfect’ location are based on history and culture, sports-based activities and adventure. She says, “As of 2023, most families are opting to go to states like Himachal Pradesh or Uttarakhand. The simple reason being that these places have a lot to offer in terms of trekking, adventure, relaxation and peaceful family time. Besides, for those wanting to explore International destinations this summer, travelling to countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai are quite in vogue.”

Most people have already begun booking for summer, as per Ms Lakhera. The right time to have had the best deals are the months of February and March. However, all is not lost because in the second week of May, more and more people will be surfing online to look for options. So, hurry!

In conclusion, these are just a few of the top places to visit. Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or a little bit of both, India sure has plenty of options to choose from. So pack your bags, grab your sunscreen, and get ready to make some unforgettable summer memories.
