Recently, Apeejay School, Kharghar, marked a proud moment in its sporting journey. The school’s girls’ handball team won the renowned Dronninglund Cup in Denmark, securing their place on the international map with skill, focus, and unwavering determination.

The Dronninglund Cup, one of the most competitive handball tournaments in the world, saw participation from 15 countries. Apeejay School’s team battled through eight league matches, moved on to the semi-finals, and finally clinched the win in a thrilling final. Each match pushed their limits, but the team’s spirit never wavered.

The girls stood tall not just as athletes but as young ambassadors of resilience and determination. They carried the school’s flag to a global arena and returned with honour. Meet two such students who made India, the school, and their parents proud —Dyuti S Patil (V-B), and Debangi R Pati (V-B).

In a candid interview, they share their experience and final winning moments.

Dyuti, who was adjudged Player of the Day, said, “Winning the Dronninglund Cup was the biggest moment of my life. We believed we could do it, and when we finally won, we jumped, screamed, and even cried with joy. Representing India on an international stage was a proud and emotional experience,” she recalled

The final was tough, she shared; they were trailing 1–6, but they fought back, tied the score, and won in extra time. “I’ll never forget the whistle blowing and the feeling that followed. I’m grateful to my school and coaches for their constant support, motivation, and belief in me,” she said.

Debangi, said that winning the Dronninglund Cup was truly unforgettable. “Competing on an international stage with my classmates after a year of intense training and tournaments like the Partille Cup and the national championship in Goa brought us closer than ever. Our shared trust, understanding, and support turned into powerful teamwork on the field. Though we were nervous at first, we helped each other stay focused and determined,” she recounted.

Our early exit from the Partille Cup was disheartening, but we didn’t give up, she added. “We kept saying, ‘We can do it’, celebrating even the smallest victories and learning from every match. Our coach, trained alongside us in pouring rain, always motivated us to keep going. Her belief in us made all the difference. Our Principal supported us wholeheartedly; her inspiring pep talk before we left lifted our confidence,” she said.

“This win taught me that true success comes from unity, resilience, and the strength of those who believe in you,” she shared.
