Public speaking is no joke. Most people experience jitters, a fumbling tongue, and a racing heart before the mic on the stage. However, for some, it is not just a cake walk, but also an experience that gives them a sense of excitement and purpose. Meet Adeesh Chandra, a class 7 student at Apeejay School, Noida. He recently participated in a session with MS Talks, a platform for people to share extraordinary ideas and experiences that inspire people all around.  Adeeesh gave a brilliant speech on ‘The changing nature of relationships in the modern world’ and was awarded for best content as a keynote speaker.

In an exclusive interview, the promising public speaker shares some anecdotes from his speech as well as gives some insights into his journey before the mic. Read edited excerpts:

MS talks must have been a great experience Adeesh. Please share about it?

Indeed, MS talks is a great platform for both budding and established speakers. Well, if you ask me about my experience, it was great being there as a keynote speaker. I really enjoyed competing with all the talented speakers and speaking in front of the renowned judges. I learned a lot and grew with this experience.

Also, tell us about your best moment from MS talks?

The best moment for every speaker is when he / she speaks on the stage and watches people applauding and understanding their message. It was the same for me. Also, another such moment to be cherished was when the organiser complimented me on my speaking skills and wished me well to become renowned in this field one day.

What was your speech on?

As a speaker, one should always try to address the concerns of the society, so I choose ‘Relationships’ as my topic. In this fast moving world, relationships is one such area which is becoming a little challenging as many people are trying to grapple with its fast changing shape. This topic is very close to my heart, hence I thought to share my perspective on maintaining and building healthy relationships in life. Hopefully, my speech may be able to make, if not the larger society, then only a few lives more happy, peaceful and loving.

How did your school encourage you as a public speaker?

My school has helped me a lot by providing me multiple opportunities since I was enrolled here. The first time I got a chance for public speaking was in nursery grade. I had to deliver the ‘Vote of Thanks’ in a ceremony at the school. As I moved further in my classes, many such opportunities came my way. In fact after becoming the Head Boy of the primary wing, my exposure to such creative opportunities increased. I became more confident and began working on my speaking skills seriously.

One quick tip for public speaking

A public speaker is not there to impress people, rather he/she is the one who understands his/her responsibility to address social concerns. They are the ones who try to change people’s perspective with their thoughts. It is a big opportunity!
