National Best Friend’s Day: ‘A1’ since Day 1

I met Harshita on 18 September last year on the very first day of our PG classes. Amidst all the strangers, she came to me, sat beside me, and started talking about the most random topics. We connected right there, as her laughter, smiles, and giggles brought warmth to the moment. My first memory of her is that pretty smile and the pure-hearted way she spoke to me. From that day, we bonded as if we had known each other for ages. I was delighted in our conversations, and the next day, we even arrived at college in matching outfits. When I look back at our pictures from the second and third day of college, I also find it difficult to believe that it had been just 1-2 days of us knowing each other.

As the days turned into a week, our friendship deepened. People began to assume that we had known each other long before college. We took pride in correcting them, joyfully sharing that we had just met days ago. It felt as though our connection was effortless, almost like “friendship at first sight.” Our bond grew into something more profound than mere friendship; we became a family. We spent most of our time together, leading others to believe we were roommates, though we were not. We were inseparable, whether studying, watching Bollywood romantics like “Hum Saath Saath Hain”, savoring “golgappa” at Ramphal Chowk, or cooking pasta. She brought true joy into my life, the kind that every friendship should possess.

Our first Diwali away from our families was a testament to our bond. In an empty building, just the two of us, we created our own little rituals, filling the space with our warmth and cheer. It was just the two of us, yet we were dressed up like we were invited to Manish Malhotra’s Diwali bash! Well, that’s just one example of how we just need each other to make our days special.

Whenever I was down, she was there to comfort me, always trying to instill sense and protect me from those who might cause harm. Our friendship is unchanging and steadfast.

Now, after being apart from you for three months, I realise even more how vital you are to me. I miss our spontaneous visits to each other’s rooms, our impromptu plans, our cooking and rant sessions, and our photoshoots. She has made me believe in the beauty of true friendship. Can’t wait to make more beautiful memories together. She is my family, away from home.

I can maybe publish a book on our friendship too. I have so much to  say!

Love you Harshita.
