A 2020 pass-out of Apeejay School, Pitampura, Riya Aggarwal (19) who is pursuing her Economics Hon. has been conferred the best young entrepreneur award 2020, best start-up award, India, got candid with Apeejay Newsroom to share her journey of success at such a young age. She also talked about the values she got from Apeejay School, that is helping her in her professional life.

Your journey from being a school girl to a young entrepreneur?
I am a very passionate and ambitious girl. I always wanted to start something of my own and so I did when I was 18! After my Class 12th board examination got over in 2020, the government announced nationwide lockdown. On a daily basis, I have been reading articles about how the people were suffering and the small businesses were being affected. My friend and I thought of starting a hyper local delivery service-Riding Rangers in Delhi-NCR in which we directly tied up with companies to deliver their products the same day.
This is a lifetime experience I am having which is like a roller coaster for me. Meeting new people, managing clients, managing workers, accounting, risks, time constraints, commitment, business ideas, growth etc, everything has given me a lot of experience and a chance to be better each day!

Tell me something more about Riding Rangers?
Riding Rangers, which is an instant delivery service, has tie ups with over 75 companies whose products are perishable like bakeries, cheese companies, hydroponics, dry fruits etc. It’s basically a B2C business. Now we have over 50 staff members including executives and delivery men on full-time employment. Riding Rangers has a footprint in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
We tied up with chemists to ensure supply of medicines and PPE kits to the hospitals. We had tie-ups with NGOs, animal vets to transport animals in case of any emergency. We also helped many corona patients to provide them food every day from their families. We are still continuing to deliver food thalis to people.

How are you managing your company?
As we didn’t have investment in the initial days, we created our own software by learning from Google and YouTube tutorials. We have a tie-up with companies who use our software to take orders. Once we receive the orders, using WhatsApp, Google sheets and google maps, our delivery boys identify the shortest route and plan the trip to make deliveries for the day. To minimize the efforts and cost, we utilize resources by doing single pick-up and multiple drops. Earlier we were operating from home, and now we have taken an office in Rohini.

Is anything else in your pipeline?
Yes. As we are doing pretty well in the instant delivery service, I started another business a month ago. It’s an e-commerce platform, where we sell gifts, cute and quirky items. We will soon be launching the website. One advantage for us is that we have our own delivery service in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore.

Learnings from Apeejay  that is helping you in your business?
Specifically what I learnt from Apeejay is multitasking. Frankly speaking, they have always motivated me to go into co-curricular and do well in my studies as well. Today I am able to manage both my studies and work together is because of what I have learnt from Apeejay.  I was good at drawing, so it is helping me in the packaging for my e-commerce platform. I learnt computer skills from Apeejay and that is why I was able to create software on my own.
I believe that Apeejay gave me the right amount of resources I would have needed to shape my personality and have trust on myself. They kept on motivating me and make me believe that ‘I can do it’.
And so I proved it now. I made my own identity. Would really like to thank all my teachers, Principal maam and vice principal sir for helping me soar high as soaring high is my nature.

I always wanted to do something different. When I got the chance,  I grabbed it. “
