Mathematics may appear to be a challenging subject, but it is also one in which you have a chance to score a perfect centum if you are well-prepared to answer even the trickiest of questions. With the CBSE class X Board exams only a few days away, it is time to work harder and ace all the assessments. But before that, if you are looking for some tips to score full marks in CBSE class X Mathematics, here are some effective tips from Naresh Marwaha, a math teacher for classes IX-XII in Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg.

Tips to score 100% in CBSE class 10 math exam

“This year, CBSE has designed the latest sample paper on mathematics for class X by dividing it into five sections including competency-based, assertion reasoning, and case study-based questions; a child must go through the type of the questions being asked in a proper section and then develop a strategy for solving such familiar questions within a stipulated time,” the math teacher says.

Here’s what he advises:

1. Have a good understanding of the topic by going through each concept related to the topic.

2. Maths is not only about knowing the concept but is also about applying the concept so read the questions carefully and then apply proper formulae to find the solution to a problem.

3. Develop a step-by-step solving approach as in the CBSE Board exam, the marks are to be awarded stepwise.

4. Practice competency-based questions as much as possible. Case-study-based questions need to be practised thoroughly; they are easy, but you need to understand the language of the questions. And only practice can help you achieve that.

5. Time management is important in mathematics so develop a strategy by solving the latest sample papers issued by CBSE and different publishers.

6. Solve the NCERT book and NCERT EXEMPLAR two to three times before your exam and make notes. Instead of picking up too many reference books from the market, just have one or two and increase the number of revisions. Tick the important questions in your notes so that you can revise these important questions at last.

7. Make notes of formulae used in different topics and keep revising them.

8. For practice, solve previous years’ question papers and the latest sample papers. Limit the duration for solving papers to three hours 15 minutes time where 15 minutes is the reading time. Then, reduce it to two hours or two-and-a-half hours so that you have sufficient time for revising your paper. Develop a habit of revising your paper because if you do not revise you cannot catch up on your mistakes.

9. While solving the sample paper, note your weak areas and devote time to the chapters/topics by revising them once again.

Tips to solve the question paper

Keep the following in mind:

10. Utilise the 15-minute reading time properly and make a selection of the questions that you know completely and the ones which need your attention.

11 You should ideally solve the questions with more weightage at first, step-by-step, and then move to one-mark questions. Avoid overwriting or striking off answers too much.

12. Make margins on the side and do the rough calculations within these margins and not at the back of the answer sheet.

13. Make a good presentation by providing a neat, clean, and to-the-point solution to a question.

14. Draw neat, clean, and well–labelled graphs/diagrams wherever required.

15. Don’t forget to write the formulae used in the questions on the side. Develop a rational approach towards mathematics as it requires logical reasoning and critical thinking.
