Several students of classes XI and XII may find studying Accountancy tough. But why does this subject appear difficult to understand? Many students feel daunted about studying accountancy simply because it involves heavy usage of abstraction and strict adherence to rules, which may not be easily perceived and appreciated unless applied in practice. Much attention and regular practice are required in accountancy to ensure smooth mastery of procedures and principles. It involves a great deal of terminology and contains many mathematical elements; hence, for students not predisposed to numeric disciplines, the burden of content is overwhelming, making the subject seem difficult to learn.

A proper strategy will, therefore, make them bright in this subject and also bring about some fun. Accountancy is, in real words, the language of business, Ms Sumitha Nair, PGT Accounts, Apeejay School, Nerulsaid.

To make it easy for students of classes XI and XII to understand Accountancy better, the educator shared a few tips that can make the subject simple to comprehend.

Understand the Basics: Focus on grasping fundamental concepts like the accounting equation, debit and credit rules, and the double-entry system. A strong foundation is crucial.

Stay Consistent with Practice: Regularly solve problems and exercises from your textbooks and other resources. Consistent practice helps reinforce concepts and improve problem-solving skills.

Use Study Guides and Notes: Create concise study notes and summaries of each chapter. Highlight key formulas, concepts, and examples to review them quickly before exams.

Attend Classes Regularly: Pay attention in class and actively participate. Ask questions if you have doubts and seek clarifications immediately to avoid confusion later.

Group Studies: Form study groups with classmates. Discussing and solving problems together can help you understand different perspectives and clarify doubts.

Work on Sample Papers and Past Exams: Practice with sample papers and previous years’ exam papers. This helps you get familiar with the exam pattern and manage time effectively during exams.

Focus on Problem Areas: Identify topics you find challenging and spend extra time mastering them. Don’t hesitate to seek help from teachers if needed.

Use Visual Aids: Diagrams, flowcharts, and tables can help you visualize complex accounting processes and make them easier to understand.

Stay Organised: Keep your study materials, notes, and assignments well-organized. Use folders or binders to keep everything in order and easily accessible.

Time Management: Create a study schedule that allocates sufficient time to each topic. Ensure you balance your study time between theory and practical problems.

Regular Revisions: Periodically review previously covered topics to keep them fresh in your mind. Regular revision prevents last-minute cramming before exams.

Stay Positive and Motivated: Maintain a positive attitude towards your studies. Set achievable goals and reward yourself for reaching them to stay motivated.
