‘Handsome is as handsome does’

Indeed, a man is judged by his actions and not by his appearance. Though there are many shades of beauty that can be viewed from outside, the attractiveness of a person is directly related to his/her generous and brave behaviour. The inner and the outer face of beauty combine to make a personality.
Handsomeness is more than mere good looks and attractive features. For appearances are deceptive, one should not judge solely by external features. Under the mask of an attractive aspect may lie an indifferent and hostile mind. It is generous etiquette, sympathetic actions and kind words that add true handsomeness to a person.
I believe people who empathise with those in need, and understand them, are the ones who can be termed as ‘handsome’. Finding such examples might be difficult in today’s scenario, where we lack role models, but dating back to history, we have a plethora of such personalities with one of the most notable being Nelson Mandela. The great African leader’s exemplary behaviour, character, leadership qualities, persistent and prolonged fight for the downtrodden have truly made him handsome. The list of such great personalities can go on and on.
Thus, the beauty that is skin deep is no beauty at all. For handsome is as handsome does.
