Hallyu or the Korean Wave

“Parasite” director Bong Joon Ho once said, “Once you get past the 1-inch barrier of subtitles, you will discover many other amazing films.” Two years later, something similar happened in India, as the Korean Wave also known as Hallyu Wave began to emerge. This wave of Korean dramas and music groups has been spreading rapidly in India. The popularity of the Hallyu Wave in India is mostly due to the youth’s interest in K-Pop and K-Dramas, which introduces them to other aspects of Korean culture. This also expands their interest in Korean food, literature, languages, and cultures.

Many Indians are fascinated by the Korean way of living, which is led by the by the small screen entertainment industry and embraced by unlikely allies. Fans of Korean dramas often travel to the countries where their favourite characters have been and where the shows have been filmed, which is one of the main attractions for them.

Some popular Korean dramas in India are Descendants of the Sun, Goblin, and Crash Landing on You. Indian filmmakers have also started adapting Korean movies. Some examples of these adaptations are Ode to My Father, Always, and The Man from Nowhere.

Korean music, especially K-Pop, delivers important messages about mental health, injustice, dreams, and more. These messages are important to their fans, who show their support. Hundreds of millions of people find comfort in Korean music. Some popular songs include Runaway, Magic Shop, BAEPSAE, and Crown.

In short, the influence of Korean culture has been nothing short of inspiring for young people in India, encouraging them to pursue their passions and trust their instincts.
