What is gender discrimination? Does it exist? Who is affected by gender inequality? Is it good to discriminate on the basis of gender?

When a small child listens about gender discrimination, this type of question arises in his/her mind. Gender discrimination is the unequal and biased treatment with individuals based on their gender. It happens when an individual of a specific gender is given different or disadvantageous treatment in comparison to a person of the other gender in the same circumstance.

There are many cases in which we have often seen discrimination against women. However, fighting all odds, there are also such women who grew up in the world of gender discrimination, such as Malala Yousafzai, Geeta Phogat, Fannie Lou Hamer, to name a few.

Causes of gender discrimination

The first is unquestionably illiteracy, as educated people are less likely to engage in gender discrimination. Therefore, educating people can help in modifying this thinking. Furthermore, poverty is another factor that is associated with gender discrimination in some way.

Discrimination based on gender has a significant influence on the society as a whole. From an early age, children are exposed to gender stereotypes, which impacts them a lot. Furthermore, it has an impact on young people’s behaviour, academic choices, desires, attitudes, and more.

Next, we have adult gender discrimination, as a result of a wage disparity in the working class. For doing the same job, some get paid more while others get less. According to a study, many males and females die as a result of domestic abuse. Overall, humanity requires males and females to survive. As a result, inequality is doomed to fail.

To summarise this article, I would say that we must abandon old-fashioned values and mentalities. In fact, focus on instilling equality and respect in everyone, especially the students. It will take a lot of effort, but it is feasible. We can work together to achieve gender equality in terms of respect and opportunities. Therefore, it is in our hands to promote equality against all genders.
