Apeejay Svran Global School, Faridabad, was conferred an award for “Outstanding Experiential Learning Implementation in School” by Time2Grow Media at their 11th Education Summit held recently at The Lalit, Chandigarh.

The summit was organised to “identify, promote and support” innovative models of teaching in pre-schools, schools, and edu-corporates. Experts from the education sector were brought together to speak at panel discussions on ways to go beyond traditional forms of dissemination of learning to incorporate new and relevant methods of engagement, experiential learning being one of the tools.

For the uninitiated, experiential learning is the process of learning by doing as opposed to rote or didactic learning. In this, students get hands-on experience, connecting theories and knowledge learned in class to real-world situations. As a result, students play an active role in the learning process, thereby helping them to grasp concepts better. Experiential learning helps students reflect on the concepts better while stimulating their creativity.

While the concept of experiential learning is said to have originated centuries ago, American educational theorist David A Kolb was the one who developed the modern theory of experiential learning in the early 1970s.

An integral part of the learning imparted at Apeejay Svran Global School is to get children to implement the knowledge or information they are introduced to in the classroom. Through experiential learning, the school, which was established in 2011, endeavours to stimulate a child’s brain with the help of exciting learning activities. Children’s overall skills are honed through various scholastic and non-scholastic activities.

Last year, Apeejay Svran Global also won an award for “Innovative Teaching & Learning Practices” at the Education Leadership Summit and Awards 2021.

“Apeejay schools are child-centric where children are allowed to explore and experience the joy of learning through experiential activities; the students are able to learn at their own pace.”
