Divya SainiMonsoon brings joy, freshness, and a much-needed respite from the scorching heat. However, it also brings along its own set of challenges. We all are familiar that if it rains suddenly, children get back home drenched and covered in slush. The showers are responsible for spreading viral and flu among kids and adults alike. Thus to combat these hurdles, it’s crucial for parents to ensure that children are well-prepared to tackle the rainy season.
Let’s explore the essential items children should carry during monsoon days to stay safe, comfortable, and protected.
Umbrella or Raincoat: An umbrella or a raincoat is totally a must-have item during the monsoon season. It provides protection from rain showers, keeping your child dry and preventing them from catching a cold. Opt for a sturdy umbrella or a waterproof raincoat with a hood to shield your child from rain and splashes.
According to Meenakshi, the mother of Dhushyant, a student with Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, “It is essential for students to carry a raincoat in their bags every day during the monsoon season. A raincoat will not only protect them but also safeguard their books from getting wet. It acts as a shield against the rain, ensuring that they stay dry and their study materials remain in good condition. By having a raincoat handy, students can navigate through the rainy weather comfortably, without worrying about their belongings getting soaked. It is a practical and necessary item to include in their school bag during the monsoon season.”
Waterproof backpack or bag: Invest in a waterproof backpack or bag to keep your child’s belongings dry. Look for bags made from waterproof materials that have multiple compartments to store their essentials. This ensures that their books, stationery, and other belongings remain protected from rainwater.
Extra pair of clothes and footwear: Getting wet during the monsoon is inevitable, so it’s essential to pack an extra set of clothes and footwear for your child. Pack lightweight, quick-drying clothes made of materials like nylon or polyester. Additionally, include a pair of waterproof or water-resistant footwear to prevent their shoes from getting soaked.
Rain protection for books and stationery: To safeguard your child’s textbooks, notebooks, and stationery from water damage, consider using plastic zip-lock bags or waterproof covers. These protective layers will keep their study materials safe, even if they get caught in a sudden downpour.
Hand sanitizer, towel and wet wipes: Monsoon brings increased chances of germs and infections. Encourage your child to carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer to maintain good hand hygiene, especially before eating. Additionally, provide them with wet wipes to clean their hands and face when water is not readily available.
Mosquito repellent: With rain comes an increase in mosquito activity. Protect your child from mosquito bites by applying mosquito repellent before they leave the house. Choose a child-friendly and DEET-free repellent lotion or spray to keep mosquitoes at bay.
Water bottle and snacks: Walking through puddles and getting wet can be tiring for children. Ensure they stay hydrated by packing a reusable water bottle filled with clean drinking water. Additionally, include some healthy snacks like granola bars or dry fruits to keep their energy levels up during the day.
Medication and first aid kit: If your child has any specific medical conditions or allergies, make sure they carry their necessary medications in a waterproof pouch. It’s also advisable to keep a basic first-aid kit with band-aids, antiseptic cream, and pain relievers in case of any minor injuries.
According to Parul Verma, the mother of Chhavi Verma, who is studying at Apeejay School Noida, “When it comes to monsoon adventures, it is crucial to equip our children with essential items. One of the top priorities should be a medication and first aid kit. As raindrops fill the air, we must prepare them for any unexpected twists and turns of the season. A well-stocked kit acts as a guardian angel, ensuring their well-being amidst the unpredictable nature of the season. Items such as bandages, antiseptic solutions, fever reducers, and necessary prescribed medications become their shield against unforeseen ailments. Let’s teach our children the importance of preparedness and instill in them the understanding that safety is not an option but a necessity. In the embrace of the magical aura of the monsoon, let their joy and health thrive, supported by the vigilant care of a well-prepared first aid kit.”
As the monsoon is playing its role, it’s crucial to equip children with the necessary items to navigate through the rainy days safely. Remember, preparation is key to enjoy the beauty of monsoon while keeping your child protected from its challenges.
