Effective communication is a cornerstone of impactful teaching. The way educators convey information, engage with students, and provide feedback significantly influences the learning experience. Recognising the importance of strong communication skills, Apeejay School, Saket, organised a workshop on Effective Communication Skills as part of its Capacity Building Program for Teachers. The session, held on March 21, 2025, aimed to equip educators with essential skills to enhance classroom interactions and foster a more engaging and inclusive learning environment.
The workshop was conducted by Ms Nalini James, an experienced educator and trainer known for her expertise in communication and pedagogy. She shared valuable insights on verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, and feedback strategies, emphasizing their role in improving teacher-student engagement. Through interactive discussions, practical demonstrations, and real-life classroom scenarios, the session provided teachers with techniques to communicate more clearly and confidently.
A major focus of the workshop was active listening, a critical skill that helps teachers understand students’ perspectives, address their concerns effectively, and create a supportive classroom atmosphere. Ms James also highlighted the importance of non-verbal cues such as body language, facial expressions, and gestures, which play a crucial role in reinforcing spoken words and making lessons more engaging.
Participants were introduced to various feedback strategies that encourage student participation and learning. Ms James demonstrated methods to provide constructive feedback, ensuring students feel motivated and guided rather than criticised. Teachers also engaged in role-playing exercises to practice effective communication techniques in different classroom situations.
The session was highly appreciated by the faculty, who found the strategies both practical and relevant to their teaching practices. Many teachers expressed enthusiasm about implementing the new techniques to create a more dynamic and responsive learning environment.
By hosting such workshops, this school reaffirms its commitment to continuous professional development, ensuring that educators are well-equipped with the skills necessary to deliver meaningful and impactful teaching. The session served as a valuable step towards enhancing communication skills, ultimately benefiting teachers and students in the learning process.
