The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the class XII Physical Education exam on March 12. The paper was three hours long, which started at 10:30 am and ended at 1:30 pm. The students were given 15 minutes to read the paper thoroughly – from 1):15 am to 10:30 am.

There were many assertion and reasoning-based questions in the paper which needed a thorough study of the chapters and logical reasoning. Overall the questions were from the prescribed syllabus.

The question paper was of 70 marks with five sections.

Section A – MCQs (1-18) of 1 mark each

Section B – Very short answer type questions (19-24) 2 marks each; not to exceed 60-90 words

Section C – Short answer type question (25-30) 3 marks each; not to exceed 100-150 words

Section D – Case-based study questions (31-33) 4 marks each

Section E – Long answer type questions (33-37) 5 marks each, not to exceed 200-300 words

Only sections B, C, and D had internal choices.

According to Ashok Kumar, a Physical Education (PE) teacher at Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, the question paper was challenging, creative, and technical, rated above average in difficulty, and not considered easy or scoring. “This year’s exam was noted to be more difficult compared to previous years, marking a departure from past trends,” the educator said and shared the following analysis.

·         Question number 25 in section C was purely technical and quite difficult.

·         The exam consisted of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) from questions 1 to 18, which were also above the average difficulty level.

·         The exam included 34 questions, and completing it within the allotted three hours was challenging.

·         Only well-prepared students could finish on time, with nearly all students managing to do so except one or two.

·         Some questions required creative thinking and were not straightforward, especially questions 31, 32, and 33, which asked for one-word answers without providing options.

·         The exam was based on the CBSE curriculum for Physical Education, with all questions aligned with the curriculum and none from outside sources.

·         Sections B, C, and D offered internal choices to students, adding flexibility to the exam format.

·         Students who would have thoroughly gone through the syllabus would have been able to attempt the question paper easily.

·         Overall, it was a balanced question paper of technical, creative, and case study questions. It was well-constructed but challenging for those not adequately prepared.
