The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class X Social Science exam is scheduled on March 7 this year. The exam will include a mix of MCQs (true/false, match the following), and subjective/descriptive questions. Subjective questions often involve short answers and essay-type questions to assess a student’s understanding of concepts.

According to Mr Sukhpal Singh Sarkaria, Social Science teacher at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, “The question paper usually comprises multiple sections like History, Geography, Civics, and Economics. There might be different weightage assigned to each section.”

The educator suggested the following tips to follow that will help students ace the exam.

The best revision techniques students should adopt.

The syllabus typically covers various topics within History, Geography, Political, and Economics as prescribed by the respective education board. Students are advised to create a realistic timetable, practice past papers and sample papers, make flashcards and short notes, and focus on conceptual clarity.

Common mistakes students make and how to avoid them.

A few of the common mistakes students should avoid are – not answering the question, not looking at the mark scheme or the space provided, panicking, failing to plan their answers and generalising. These can be easily avoided and students can look forward to scoring well in the exam.

How to study during the gap between different papers?

Setting small targets is what students should do when they have limited time as it will help them to finish the syllabus within a time limit. They can opt for daily targets and try to ensure that whatever they study and learn, they are confident about it. Find out their areas of strengths and weaknesses.

How to perform well on the day of the exam?

Stick to the word limit and do not write more than what is required. Write to the point and do not beat around the bush. Practice map work to be accurate and manage your time well to attempt all questions on time.

One day before the exam schedule.

Write down all events that they can recall from memory. Then, search their textbook and notes to add in other important events. Highlight any events that they have a hard time remembering so they can study them more before taking the test. Synthesise their notes into paragraphs to make sure they can understand them.
