Budding graphic designer explains the pros and cons of working from home

Apeejay alumnus Alok Jha says, “Regular team meetings, clear communication, and effective project management tools are crucial when working remotely.”

As a designer, Alok Jha believes art is a fascinating and beautiful subject that grants one with the freedom to express oneself creatively. The sight of creative advertisements and posters never fails to amaze this budding designer, and thereby, he decides to pursue a career in graphic designing with an aim to create unique and out-of-the-box designs. The Apeejay alumna is currently working as a Graphic Designer with Instahyre, an advanced hiring platform based on artificial intelligence, enabling recruiters to hire top talent effortlessly.

In his free time, Alok , who hails from Patna, Bihar, finds great joy in exploring the world around him as nature, history, and sports fascinates him the most. Check out his interview as he explains his current job role and how to ace in the field of graphic design. Read edited excerpts:

What is your current role?
At present, I am working as a graphic designer at Instahyre, where I actively manage posts, branding, and website banners and posters. My role also involves editing videos as well as creating engaging daily posts to connect candidates and recruiters, given that our company operates as a hiring platform.


How did Apeejay prepare you to be part of the graphic design field?
Apeejay has played a vital role in shaping my graphic design career. The courses provided me with a strong foundation, covering design principles, colour theory, and the creative thinking process. The interactive and supportive faculty created a fantastic learning environment that boosted my skills and confidence.

You mentioned you are following a work from home model. As a graphic designer, what are the challenges of this model?
I have experienced the benefits of working from home, such as the flexibility to manage my environment and time. However, I’ve also encountered challenges like communication gaps and difficulties in tracking work progress within a team. To overcome these obstacles, regular team meetings, clear communication, and effective project management tools are crucial.


How does one become an efficient graphic designer?
For aspiring graphic designers, I suggest cultivating creativity by observing your surroundings from a design perspective. Avoid copying others and instead focus on developing your unique style. Master graphic design softwares like Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign to create compelling and professional designs.

Where do you see yourself in the coming five years?
In the future, I envision myself as a senior graphic designer, taking charge of projects and continuously expanding my knowledge and skills. I aspire to achieve a leadership role within the design team and share my expertise to mentor and inspire other designers.
