An outdoor educational visit is an integral part of a new-age learner’s curriculum. Such a visit not only gives students the opportunity to explore things practically, but also allows them to develop communication and problem solving skills as well as helps build healthy relationships among peers. Educational visits give them the space to explore, discover and think freely by reducing communication barriers.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 lockdowns had created outdoor learning barriers for many. But as the world came back to normalcy, outdoor educational trips once again became the centre stage for teaching-learning methodologies thereby contributing to a student’s overall development.

If we talk about budding designers, outdoor learning gives them the ability to learn about new crafts, designs, as well as modern and traditional artistry that they can implement it in their work. Hence, outdoor visit forms an integral part of design education at Apeejay Institute of Design (AID) as well.

The institute recently organised an outdoor study tour for its GDP Foundation, Semester- 2 students to the Craft Museum in Delhi, where they witnessed the collection of rich handicrafts, textiles, sculptures and large village abodes.

During the visit, students gained knowledge about the traditional art of embroidery, weaving, carving and pottery of different states.

They also got the opportunity to explore an exhibition on ‘Bukhara – A Journey on the Silk Route”, following which they interacted with the conveyer of the show, who explained the journey of various exhibits which were a harbinger of shades of Indian nomadic legacy.

This educational visit opened new doors for the students as they saw the rich craft heritage of the country. In the end, students sketched and painted the creative environment of the exhibition to capture the moments spent at the Craft Museum.

Earlier too, the institute had organised a market research tour at The DLF Promenade Mall in Vasant Kunj for its fashion design students. At the market visit, students did a brand study on a given clothing type. From the educational trip, these budding designers gained knowledge about brands, fabrics, embroideries, styles, necklines and much more.

AID also organised an outdoor market research tour for the Graphic Design students at Delhi’s famous Connaught Place. The aim of the visit was to make students explore ‘Outdoor Media Advertising’ and different existing brands, both international and national. Students got to learn about advertising trends as well as new products available in the market. The learners also understood the different approaches to marketing the products.
