Market research plays a crucial role in understanding the trend, available resources and brainstorming innovative ideas to create products and services. Hence, market research forms an integral part of design education as well at Apeejay Institute of Design (AID).

The institute recently organised a market research tour for its  fashion design students, who visited The DLF Promenade Mall in Vasant Kunj. The aim of this visit was to  expose students to the market, so that they could gather new key information on what’s new, understand the audience, and learn about different brands. Each student was given one specific clothing type and was asked to do the brand-study based on that specific type. They gained knowledge about brands, fabrics , embroideries, styles ,necklines and much more.

Knowing well how these types of opportunities help students to enhance their perspective about the design world while boosting their design thinking skills, AID also organised a market research tour for the Graphic Design students, who visited Delhi’s famous Connaught Place, to explore ‘Outdoor Media Advertising’ and different existing brands, both international and national. Building their  knowledge in graphics and advertising,  students got to learn about the advertising trends as well as new products available in the market. Budding designers also understood the different approaches of marketing a particular product.Students had a good experience and developed great understanding by observing critical aspects of outdoor advertising.

Similarly, Interior Design students went to research the latest trends in lights and lighting fixtures as they visited Kotla Mubarakpur and Khan Market for outdoor learning. They explored various types of bracket lights, track lights and chandeliers. They also gathered awareness about the various possibilities of usage of LED lights and other upcoming trends like motion sensor lights and so on. Interaction with shopkeepers provided them with a hands-on learning experience and knowledge of how to use lights as per their colour temperature, output requirement and fixtures available in market.
