Rotaract Club of Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Delhi Pegasus organised an event that aimed at breaking societal taboos and raising awareness on critical issues like period positivity, cervical cancer, and self-love. The event spanned over six hours and was held on February 3, 2014, at NPV Boys School and NPV Girls School in Chhatarpur. This transformative session provided ample time for each activity and ensured meaningful interaction with the participants.

Activities like pad distribution and sensitising girls about cervical cancer and other related information were provided during the session by the students.

Pad distribution and period positivity session: A significant initiative involved distributing pads to 200 girls along with an informative session on period positivity. The goal was to break the silence surrounding menstruation and promote a positive and healthy outlook.

Cervical cancer awareness: A dedicated session on cervical cancer awareness aimed to educate and empower young girls with essential knowledge about preventive measures and early detection.

On similar grounds, a metamorphic discussion was conducted to raise awareness about mental and emotional health for boys.

Self-love session and activities: Recognising the importance of mental and emotional well-being, a session on self-love and engaging activities were conducted for the boys, fostering a positive mindset.

Stationary distribution drive: A commendable effort involved distributing stationery to 200 students, supporting their educational needs and encouraging a conducive learning environment.

Rangde (Wall Painting): A creative endeavour — Rangde — activity allowed students to express themselves through art, adding vibrant colours to their surroundings.

Events of this nature play a pivotal role in addressing societal taboos, promoting awareness, and empowering individuals. By initiating open conversations on topics often shrouded in silence, these events contribute to the creation of a more informed and supportive society. The focus on mental, emotional, and physical health reflects a commitment to holistic well-being.

“The success of the event was made possible through the unwavering support and guidance of the faculty at Apeejay Stya University. The Rotaract Club acknowledged the instrumental role played by ASU’s faculty and coordinators, who foster an environment where students can develop and implement innovative ideas,” expressed Rtr. Vibhuti Verma, President RaCASUG (2023-24), IV year student pursuing Integrated Biotechnology at ASU.

The Rotaract Club envisions hosting more such impactful events in the future, building on the success of this endeavour. The ongoing planning reflects a commitment to creating positive societal change through awareness, education, and community engagement.

In conclusion, the Breaking Taboos and Fostering Awareness event stood as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives in creating a more informed, supportive, and empowered society.
