School of Pharmaceutical Sciences-Apeejay Stya University, Gurgaon, is organising a national seminar on the theme ‘Nanomedicine and Medical Devices in Healthcare’, sponsored by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), DST, Government of India. Nanomedicine is defined as the application of nanotechnology for medical purposes. It involves the use of nanomaterials for diagnosis, monitoring, control, prevention and treatment of diseases.

To be held in the hybrid mode, the third national seminar will take place on February 11.

Bringing together scholars, industrial researchers, and scientists on one platform, the seminar aims to discuss the emerging trends in the field of nanomedicine. The students from the pharmaceutical and biomedical sections will get a wonderful opportunity to interact with the experts and get first-hand insight into nanotechnology, novel drug delivery techniques, nanomedicines, medical devices, and their regulatory approval, drug repurposing, safety concerns, and so on. The seminar will facilitate the much-needed deliberation on the scope and challenges in the respective areas to enable better understanding and open new directions to research.

The seminar will have a total of seven speakers. Dr V Kalaiselvan, Senior Principal Scientific Officer, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, will be the Chief Guest at the event. He is currently responsible for the protection and promotion of quality standards, safety and rational use of drugs. He has played a significant role in the implementation of medical products safety surveillance systems such as Pharmacovigilance and Materiovigilance Programme of India. He has also been instrumental in forging partnerships with public health programmes, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) labs, Quality Council of India (QCI), World Health Organization (WHO), etc.

Dr Arvind Kumar Bansal, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmaceutics, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), will also be present at the seminar as one of the speakers. Over the years, Dr Bansal has developed expertise in the fields of pre-formulation and formulation development encompassing characterisation and stabilisation of the amorphous form, polymorphism, pseudo-polymorphism, particle engineering, screening salt forms, improvement of oral bioavailability and lyophilisation. He has been conferred coveted titles and awards like AAiPS Distinguished Educator and Researcher Award, Innocentive Award, OPPI Award and IPA-ACG Scitech Innovation Award 2018 for Best Innovative Development of Solid Dosage Form.

The eminent list of speakers also includes stalwarts from Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DIPSAR), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology, among other government institutions, as well as industry players.
