On the fourth day of the ‘Teamwork, Cooperation, and Closure Week’ at Apeejay School International (ASI), Panchsheel Park, students delved into the significance of service and its purpose. The school organised a special assembly for the Middle-Years Programme (MYP) students featuring Dr. Geeta Rani Arora, the Co-founder of Swayam Foundation NGO. Dr. Arora shared her experiences as a part-time social worker and the various initiatives she, along with volunteers, undertook to assist the underprivileged.

Among the initiatives, the Swayam Foundation organised coaching sessions for children with professional football coaches, conducted book sales, and crafted over a thousand handmade diyas to raise funds. The foundation also hosted multiple competitions, including races, dancing, painting, and singing, which not only brought joy, but also instilled confidence in the participating children, motivating them to pursue their dreams.

Shivani, one of the children who had been involved with the foundation since the 8th grade, shared her inspiring story. She expressed her happiness upon securing second place in a competition, stating, “It was the first achievement I had accomplished. Thanks to the support of the Swayam Foundation.” Shivani has now become a national-level boxer. Her journey stands as a testament to the impact that the foundation’s efforts have on the lives of these children.

Throughout the day, students grasped the importance of helping those in need. They gained insights into how volunteers feel a sense of fulfilment and satisfaction when they extend a helping hand to others. Moreover, they understood that engaging in such activities is crucial for personal growth and development.

The assembly featuring Dr. Geeta Rani Arora provided the students with a deeper understanding of the power of service and its ability to create positive change in society. The Swayam Foundation’s dedication to uplifting the less fortunate and providing opportunities for children to pursue their passions has left a lasting impression on the students.

By witnessing the transformative impact of the foundation’s initiatives, the students were motivated to contemplate their own roles in making a difference in the lives of others. They realised that even small acts of kindness and support can have a profound impact on individuals as well as communities as a whole.
