Chandrayaan-3: India’s remarkable lunar mission

Published

on

Chandrayaan-3 stands as India’s ambitious and triumphant lunar mission, etching its place in history as the first country to achieve a successful landing on the South Pole of the lunar surface. This achievement is a source of enduring pride for me and all Indians, ensuring a day that will be forever remembered. After the setbacks of Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) exercised exceptional caution and diligence in this endeavour. The experts underlined that the final 15 to 20 minutes were crucial for the success of the mission. Indians worldwide fervently prayed for the triumphant landing of Chandrayaan-3.

Launched on July 14, 2023, Chandrayaan-3’s lander and rover safely touched down on the lunar surface on August 23, 2023, at 6:04 pm. Through the success of ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 mission, India achieved a monumental feat by becoming the only nation to land a spacecraft on the Moon’s South Pole region. This accomplishment propelled India to stand alongside China as the second country with an operational rover on the moon. Furthermore, India joined the ranks of just four countries to have accomplished a soft landing on the lunar surface. ISRO outlined three primary objectives for the mission:

  1. Demonstrating a safe and soft lunar landing: Proving the capability of executing a secure and gentle landing on the lunar terrain.
  2. Rover exploration: Showcasing a rover’s mobility and exploration capabilities on the lunar surface.
  3. In-situ scientific experiments: Conducting on-site scientific experiments to enhance our understanding of the lunar environment.

The entire nation basked in happiness, uniting to celebrate the resounding success of Chandrayaan-3.
