Apeejay School, Kharghar, celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm and a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. The programme aimed to sensitise students to the importance of environmental conservation and inspire them to become active contributors towards building a sustainable future.

The celebration began with a special morning assembly presented by students of Classes VI to IX. Through a thoughtfully curated programme, students highlighted the significance of protecting the environment and addressing pressing ecological challenges. The assembly served as a meaningful platform to encourage environmental awareness and responsible citizenship among young learners.

A thought-provoking speech on the theme Our Earth, Our Responsibility drew attention to critical environmental issues such as pollution, deforestation, climate change, and the depletion of natural resources. The speaker urged everyone to adopt eco-friendly habits, including reducing plastic use, conserving water and energy, and embracing sustainable lifestyles. The message resonated strongly with the audience, reinforcing the idea that small individual actions can collectively create a significant positive impact.

Adding a creative dimension to the celebration, students recited inspiring poems in both Hindi and English. Their heartfelt performances beautifully captured the bond between humanity and nature while conveying a powerful message about the collective responsibility of protecting the planet for future generations. The poems not only showcased the students’ literary talents but also encouraged reflection on environmental stewardship.

Addressing the gathering, the school Principal, Dr Sonali V Balwatkar, emphasised the importance of World Environment Day and highlighted the role of young minds in shaping a greener and healthier world. Students were encouraged to make conscious choices in their daily lives and actively participate in initiatives that promote environmental sustainability.

A special highlight of the event was the school’s participation in the government’s Ek Paudha, Maa Ke Naam initiative. Students and teachers enthusiastically donated saplings and dedicated them to their mothers as a symbol of love, gratitude, care, and growth. The saplings, comprising fruit-bearing, medicinal, and ornamental varieties, contributed to the school’s efforts to enhance its green cover and support biodiversity.

The celebration concluded with a pledge by students and staff members to protect the environment, maintain cleanliness, conserve natural resources, and work collectively towards ecological balance. The event proved to be both educational and inspiring, reaffirming the school community’s commitment to creating a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future.
