With a motive to provide clothes to underprivileged children, the Rotaract Club of Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram recently organised a cloth donation camp ‘Upkaar’ in collaboration with GOONJ, an NGO.
During the event, students and teachers donated clothes of all sizes at the college premises. However, they were also given a chance to make the donation directly at the venue ‘GOONJ DROPPING CENTERS’
The clothes for men, women, and children were segregated in jute bags, and members who donated the clothes were asked to attach a slip with their donation stating “Club Name, President Name, Your Name, and Phone Number”.

Dr Vijay Kumar, Associate Professor of the School of Education was the faculty coordinator of the cloth donation camp. Gargi Sharma and Aman Deshwal were student coordinators of the camp.
Dr Vijay Kumar said, “COVID has resulted in increased poverty and hunger. The Government can’t reach everyone, therefore it’s the responsibility of each one of us to help those in need and spread the message of humanity.”
While expressing her views on the much-needed camp, Vanshita Singh, Director of Community Service said, “If you don’t wear it, give it away. There’re a lot of people who need new clothes. The purpose of donating the clothes is sharing and caring for others.”
Gargi Sharma, Event Head said, “Old clothes can provide warmth to so many people once you stop wearing them. Instead of hoarding these in a trunk, this winter, donate clothes, make a fashion statement, and do this simple act of kindness. The cloth donation drive has so far collected 20 kg of clothes for the underprivileged section of the society in need of warm clothes this year.”
To acknowledge the efforts, students who donated the maximum number of clothes at the college or directly at the venue will be awarded at the Installation Ceremony of the club president and her team.
