When this family shifted from Bengaluru to Mumbai about two years back, they started looking for a school that felt more holistic in terms of education. They wanted a place that would protect our children but also give them the right balance of exposure to new concepts.
“I think the old school values, along with exposure to newer concepts, many extracurricular activities, and the kind of support the school offered, were some of the bigger factors for us to choose Apeejay School, Nerul,” Rituparna Das, whose daughters Ria (Class V) and Shreya (Class I) are studying here, said.

In these last two years, what kind of learners have your daughters become at home?
Both my daughters have always been good in their studies, but now I see them taking ownership of their homework and their extracurricular activities. They have become more independent and more reliable with their studies. That has been a pretty big change. I think a lot of that is thanks to the teachers, who have helped the children understand their responsibilities.

What classroom or school activities have helped them open up?
The SIC activities and extracurricular activities at the school have helped a lot. My elder daughter has participated as a volunteer for PTM activities. For my younger one, almost once a week, she is called to speak. All these opportunities have helped build their confidence.
Have they picked up any new interests or skills recently that you are proud of?
The school has helped my elder daughter, who is becoming more confident about her dancing skills. She has always loved dancing, but at school she gets many more opportunities to participate, whether it is in competitions, functions, volunteering, or class activities.
What kind of support have the teachers provided that has made a real difference in Ria’s learning?
When we came here, Ria did not know Hindi or Marathi at all. Having that conversation with the school coordinator and her subject teachers was really helpful. Everyone was very supportive of her journey. They helped her separately from the rest of the class because she did not even know the akshars when we started. Now, she is getting really good marks in both. That has been because of a lot of patience from her teachers
How do you encourage studying at home?
At home, we try to establish routines. She doesn’t have to study every day, but we have routines where she studies a little or catches up on weekends. I would rather not put too much pressure on the children to study at this age. But we spend time learning new things and new concepts.
