Recently, Apeejay School, Kharghar, successfully hosted the impactful and forward-thinking programme Mission Paryavaran Raksha-Environment Conservation Programme reaffirming its commitment to fostering environmental responsibility among young learners. The initiative was thoughtfully curated to instill a deep-rooted sense of sustainability in students while encouraging eco-conscious practices within the school community and beyond.
The programme stands as a testament to the visionary guidance and unwavering support of the school management, whose commitment to holistic education and sustainable development continues to empower such meaningful initiatives. Their strategic direction has played a pivotal role in nurturing an environment where ecological awareness is seamlessly integrated into everyday learning.

The event was strengthened by the dynamic leadership of the the school Principal, Dr Sonali V Balwatkar, whose passion for environmental stewardship and experiential education served as the driving force behind the initiative. Her inspiring address at the commencement of the programme set a purposeful tone, as she emphasised the urgent need to move beyond awareness to action. Encouraging students to become responsible custodians of the environment, she highlighted the critical role young minds play in addressing global environmental challenges.
The programme was a collaborative effort between the Rotary Club of New Bombay Seaside, Mission Green, and Apeejay School, Kharghar, with generous support from the CSR initiatives of LEAP India Ltd. This partnership brought together educators, environmental advocates, students, and parents, all united by a shared vision of building a greener and more sustainable future.


The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including S Balachandran, Naresh Thakur, Dr Subhajit Mukherjee, Divekar Reddy, Dharmendra Kar, Aditya Raj, and Mr Ravi Dhotrey. Their presence added depth and inspiration to the occasion.
A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Mission Green logo by Dr Subhajit Mukherjee. The thoughtfully designed logo, depicting a nurturing hand holding a growing plant alongside a bird, symbolised care, growth, and harmony with nature. Accompanied by the message सुरक्षित पर्यावरण, बेहतर कल (Safe Environment, Better Tomorrow), it reinforced the programme’s core ethos of sustainability and collective responsibility.


A series of action-oriented initiatives formed the backbone of the programme. A vibrant plantation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, parents, teachers, and guests, underscoring the importance of increasing green cover. The school also highlighted its ambitious Miyawaki forest project, aimed at creating a dense, self-sustaining native forest within the campus, thereby promoting biodiversity and ecological restoration.
Adding to this, a proposal for a butterfly garden was introduced, envisioning a thriving ecosystem to support pollinators and enhance biodiversity awareness among students. The programme also emphasised sustainable resource management through practical solutions such as rainwater harvesting systems and composting techniques, encouraging responsible use of resources and waste reduction.


The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all stakeholders. Mission Paryavaran Raksha at Apeejay School, Kharghar emerged as a resounding success, leaving participants inspired, sensitised, and empowered to take meaningful steps towards building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.
