Before the college lectures and engineering labs came the classroom chalkboards and football fields of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park. It’s here that Rishun Singhal found his love for learning, grew under the mentorship of kind teachers, and discovered the early sparks of an engineering mind. In this part of the interview, he opens up about school life, balancing science with sports, and the advice he’d give to his younger self. Read edited excerpts:

Which sports and activities were a big part of your school life?

Football was a huge part! I played for about 7-8 years and was part of the school team as a centre-back. I also played badminton, but football was my first love.

Were you involved in any extracurriculars outside sports?
Not really — sports was my main focus. It gave me discipline, confidence, and a strong team spirit.

How were your teachers during your time at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park?
They were amazing. My chemistry teacher especially helped me a lot. I struggled with the subject, but she made it manageable. For physics and maths, I mostly relied on self-study.

Did school influence your decision to pursue engineering?
Yes and no. I loved Physics and Math early on, so I always knew I’d go into a technical field. But the final push came after Class 12 while preparing for JEE again.

Looking back, what advice would you give to your school self?
Enjoy your school years fully, but if you’re taking science, be consistent. Don’t let your syllabus pile up — the pressure later can be overwhelming. Stay on top of things!

What’s your fondest memory of Apeejay Panchsheel Park?
The football matches, the friendships, and the constant support from teachers. They made me believe that I could make it — even when I doubted myself.
