Some say the roots of success lie in legacy—and for the Kapoor family, education and excellence have always gone hand in hand. From walking the lovely corridors of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar as a mathematics lecturer to seeing both her sons blossom at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar, Payal Kapoor is an embodiment of what it means to trust, grow with, and give back to an institution.
In this warm-hearted interaction, she reflects on her younger son Tanmay’s recent promotion to Class 10, his future goals, and the nurturing role Apeejay continues to play in the lives of its students. What unfolds is not just a conversation—it’s a celebration of legacy, learning, and lasting values. Read edited excerpts:
So, Payal ma’am, Tanmay has just been promoted to Class 10. What are his aspirations going forward?
Yes, he’s quite clear about his path. He wants to pursue the non-medical stream in Class 11 and is preparing for the JEE. His inclination is strongly towards Mathematics and Science. Just like his elder brother, Sarthak.

Oh, so your elder son also studied at Apeejay Mahavir Marg?
Absolutely. Sarthak passed out from Apeejay Mahavir Marg too and is now pursuing B.Tech from IIT Guwahati. He was always a
multi-talented student, and I must say, this school played a key role in shaping both my sons’ academic journeys.
Do you see Tanmay following closely in his brother’s footsteps?
He certainly is! He admires his brother a lot and is determined to follow the same IIT path. He’s very logical and intelligent, and Maths and Science are his strengths. He’s also quite self-driven, which is great to see.
Does he have interests outside academics as well?
Oh yes, Tanmay is very active in extracurriculars. He loves playing football and regularly participates in school competitions—debates especially. He even won a huge cash prize in an inter-school event. He also enjoys theatre and the English language, which adds another creative side to his personality.
How has the school contributed to his growth over the years?
The grooming he’s received here is exceptional. The teachers are incredibly cooperative and supportive. Both my sons were guided very well throughout their years here. I’ve always had a very positive experience with the school.
And you’ve also been part of the Apeejay family as a faculty member, right?
Yes, I was a Mathematics lecturer at Apeejay College of Fine Arts till 2022. I worked there for almost 15 years. So yes, you can say Apeejay is in our blood—we’re deeply connected to this family, and I’m proud of it.
