Student Achiever: ‘I blossomed under the aegis of my teachers’

She has a dream which she fiercely protects, after all her life achievements are a culmination of it. Meet Ridhima Jha currently studying in class X at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park. In a candid interview, she rewinds how she set her first foot on the journey of martial arts.

Tell us about your recent achievements in judo.

This year I won third place in the judo and kurash competition at the Inter-zone level. Last year, I won second place in the same. It was in the year 2022 when I started learning both kurash and judo competitions and won the second position during an Inter-school competition.

How did Apeejay School support your journey in judo?

The teachers are very supportive and have been there to motivate me. A teacher at the school introduced me to this sport and ignited my interest in it. My present sports teacher has also played a key role in preparing me well for every competition.

Who is your inspiration?

My previous judo teacher is my inspiration. Her hard work and resilience have encouraged me to give my best in every match. Her patient demeanour has also instilled in me the belief that hard work always pays off.

How has Judo changed your life?

Judo has taught me to prioritise my fitness and has made me more disciplined and increased agility in my body.

How do you balance studies and judo?

Honestly, it has been very easy for me to balance my studies and judo as I practice this sport in the morning hours and devote the rest of the day to my studies.
