Yercaud, a charming hill station nestled in the Servarayan Hills of the Eastern Ghats, offers a serene escape spread over just 383 square kilometers. Known for its lush landscapes and tranquil atmosphere, Yercaud promises an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventurers alike.

The Big Lake, Yercaud’s main attraction, is a hub of activity and a must-visit for anyone exploring the area. Visitors can hire two or four-seater pedal boats and rowboats to navigate the pristine waters, making for a delightful outing. Nearby, the beautifully manicured gardens of Anna Park provide a visual feast with their vibrant flora, offering a perfect spot for relaxation and photography.
One of the most popular viewpoints in Yercaud is Lady’s Seat, which offers stunning vistas of the winding ghat roads and the town of Salem below. Close to Lady’s Seat is the silk farm and Pagoda Point, also known as Gent’s Seat, both of which are worth a visit for their scenic beauty and the peaceful atmosphere they provide.
At the highest point in Yercaud, standing at an impressive 5,326 feet, is the Shevaroy Temple. Dedicated to the local deity Servaran and his consort Kaveriamma, this temple not only holds religious significance but also attracts numerous tourists for its panoramic views and serene surroundings.
The Botanical Gardens in Yercaud are a must-see for any plant enthusiast. Home to hundreds of plant species, including rare varieties like the pitcher plant and the famous Kurinji flower that blooms once every 12 years, the gardens are a treasure trove of natural beauty. The enchanting orchidarium within the gardens is considered India’s third largest, adding to the allure of this green haven.

Reaching Yercaud is relatively straightforward. The nearest airport is Salem Airport, approximately 38 kilometers away, while Tiruchirappalli Airport is about 165 kilometers distant. For those traveling by train, Salem Junction is the closest railhead, situated around 38 kilometers from Yercaud. By road, it takes roughly a 45-minute drive from Salem to reach the hill station.
Yercaud’s blend of natural splendor, historical significance, and cultural heritage makes it a perfect destination for a rejuvenating getaway. Whether you’re boating on the Big Lake, exploring the Botanical Gardens, or simply soaking in the breathtaking views from various vantage points, Yercaud promises a memorable and enriching experience.
